Hi, I'm Megan!
I started The Memory Lane Project after inheriting a box of old videos. Mostly tapes and scratched DVDs all filled with birthdays, vacations, and the everyday life of growing up in the 80s and 90s... even film reels of my parent's and grandparent's generation! Seeing those memories at risk of becoming obsolete made me realize I had to do something.
I didn’t just want to save the footage; I wanted to save the stories behind it.
What began as a personal mission to share short clips on Instagram quickly grew into something much bigger. People from all over the world weren’t just watching... they were reflecting on their lives, flooding the comments with their own stories and memories of life growing up, creating a community of collective nostalgia. Within a few months there were millions of views and nearly 50,000 followers, making it clear how deeply these moments resonated with a wider audience.
Working with Video8, Hi8, Digital8, film and VHS takes patience and care. It can take hours to track down outdated equipment, get old players running properly, and capture the footage with as much detail as possible.
I spend a lot of time watching through these tapes, hand-picking the moments, from funny to heartfelt to just everyday life. My goal is to turn those raw clips into short vignettes that keep the feeling of the original memory alive. It’s a labor of love, but it is so worth it. Not only am I uncovering parts of my own life I’d forgotten, but I’m also getting to hear incredible stories from all of you who are reminiscing right along with me!

The project has grown beyond what I ever imagined, now reaching over 4 million views and a community of more than nearly 50,000 followers on Instagram. The response shows how deeply these stories resonate, and how many memories are still waiting to be rescued and preserved.
With new tools and resources, I’m able to work more efficiently to restore these archives and share even more stories. Each project still requires significant time, care, and specialized equipment, and every bit of support helps make this work possible. I’m excited to see where this journey down memory lane goes next!
