Storytelling through real home movies from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

Press Play on the Past.

Hi, I'm Megan! I started The Memory Lane Project after inheriting a box of old family home movies, tapes and scratched DVDs full of birthdays, vacations, and everyday life. Seeing those memories at risk of disappearing or becoming obsolete made me realize I had to act. I didn’t just want to save the footage, I wanted to save the stories behind it.

I began sharing short, carefully chosen clips on Instagram, using music and editing to craft mini vignettes that brought those moments back to life. What started as a personal project quickly grew into something much bigger. Viewers from around the world weren’t just watching my videos, they were seeing their own lives reflected in them. Thousands of comments poured in, and now with over 2 million views, it’s clear these clips resonate universally, sparking memories and emotions in people far and wide.

The Memory Lane Project is about connection, nostalgia, and family. Every clip is a doorway to the past, a chance to remember, reflect, and rediscover life’s forgotten details. I’m excited to keep sharing these glimpses of the past and to invite you to take a walk down memory lane with me!

Home Movies Brought Back to Life again

These tapes aren’t just plastic, they are like little time capsules. Working with Video8, Hi8, Digital8, and VHS takes patience and care. It can take hours to track down outdated equipment, get old players running properly, and capture the footage with as much detail as possible. I carefully watch each tape, selecting the moments that truly tell a story, and then assemble them into short vignettes that let the emotion and memory shine. It takes time, attention, and persistence, but it’s worth it because this is how these memories are transformed into moments people can truly connect with!

The Memory Lane Project is an ongoing exploration of memory, story, and connection. Each tape, each clip, is a window into the past, and every vignette I create helps preserve the small, fleeting moments that define our youth.

The project has grown steadily and reached an audience I could never have imagined. On Instagram, over two million viewers have shared in these moments, and a community of over 18,000 followers continues to grow daily. This response shows that these stories resonate deeply, but there are still countless memories waiting to be rescued and preserved—a process that requires a significant undertaking of time and specialized equipment.

With the support of new tools and resources, I am now able to work more efficiently to rescue these archives and bring even more stories to life. This project is about honoring the past in ways that still resonate today, and I am excited to see where this journey down memory lane goes next!
